 Sparta is a city in the action of man, a city with history and with a modern municipality. The Municipality of Sparta is the capital of the prefecture of Laconia and has 16,473 inhabitants. Hardly 230 km from Athens and 9 km before the city of Sparta, in the north-eastern of this city is located the village of Theologos in the foot of the mountain Parnonas. Theologos is one of the eight municipal apartments,which belong in the municipality Oinountas that includes Sellasia (center),Vamvakou,Vresthena,Koniditsa,Vassara, Voutianoi, Varvitsa and Theologos and has 2930 inhabitants. The region is entering the Laconia and has been inhabited since ancient times. The ancient oak forest, which in antiquity was called Skotitas there until today. with the settlement Kalyvia, defining by this way the type of seal of Theologos from the Community council in 13/4/1914. In altitude 600m and extent 14 sq.km, the amphitheatrical place of Theologos in the ecological park of Parnon and the pleasant and dry climate have rendered the region pole of attraction for visitors from all over the world for alternative tourism all year. Opposite of Theologos is Taygetos with the historical Mystras and the valley of Sparta, which compose a work of art of natural beauty, prompting the visitor for an enchanting walk and a fantastic accomodation. The river Oinountas crosses the borders of village, contributing thus in the rural cultures and the olive-crop that is also the main occupation of its residents. The produced olive oil and the olives are characterized as excellent due to the constitution of ground and climatic conditions that prevail in the region, justifying thus the the characterization of olive oil that gave the European Union as protected Agricultural Clue.The apiculture and the livestock-farming are also very important for the region of Theologos. Except from the holy temple of Saint Ioannis of Theologos, which is located in the village’s square with the perennial platanos (from 1879), we will meet many others beautifull churches as the Saint Nektarios in the entry of village, Saint Nikolaos in byzantine rhythm, Saint Andreas, Saint Paraskevi with the unique view and Saint Georgios. Hagiati and Arfani's family The most important role in the development and promotion of the village has played Arfani's family and their famous traditional tavern "Hagiati" which has over 10 years of successful operation and with the recent creation of the music cafe "Kallikratis" in the most famous renovated Theologos square which after years of inaction and silence has transformed into a center of cultural and social events and on a daily basis the most favorite destination of whole city! |
